Tim Jones identity by Jason Little & Olivia King
I was asked to send a company’s logo I’d designed to a publication so they could use it in a layout.
I send them an eps file and tell them to let me know if they have trouble with it.
Client: Sorry, I can’t open the eps and the gif file gets too blurry when I make it bigger. Can I pull it from your website?
I didn’t send a gif, they can only mean the gif that’s part of my corporate signature.
Me: (somewhat suspiciously) Why don’t you send me the actual dimensions, and I’ll give you a print-ready jpg file. A gif file is not suitable for printing.
Client: I’m not sure what you mean by dimensions, but it will wind up being is 2” x 1 ½" high approx. A jpg would be great.
I send the jpg file at 2” wide, CMYK and 300dpi.
Client: I can work with this, but would you have it with a transparent background?
Me: Jpgs can’t do transparent backgrounds. Would you mind if I ask what program you’re using to lay this out?
Client: Powerpoint.
